Pompeii was once a bustling Roman city in southern Italy that was suddenly frozen in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD — imagine if your whole town was suddenly preserved like a giant time capsule!

Before disaster struck, Pompeii was home to about 15,000 people — that’s about the same number of people as three big elementary schools combined!
