Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, first opened its gates on August 15, 1843, making it one of the oldest amusement parks in the world — it’s even older than your great-great-grandparents!

Tivoli Gardens was created by Georg Carstensen, who convinced King Christian VIII to let him build the park by saying “When people are having fun, they don’t think about politics” — that’s like telling your parents you’ll do your homework better after playing!
