The Fox And The Geese

Share Story

One sunny afternoon, a sly fox was strolling through a beautiful meadow. As he walked, his sharp eyes spotted a flock of geese resting peacefully by a sparkling pond. The fox’s mouth watered. “Ah, what a delightful feast they would make,” he thought, licking his lips as he crept closer to the unsuspecting geese.

But the geese were no fools. They had noticed the fox sneaking up on them. They huddled together and quickly came up with a plan. When the fox finally approached, ready to pounce, the geese turned to face him.

“We know you plan to eat us,” said the oldest goose, her voice calm and steady. “But before you do, please grant us one last wish. Let us say our final prayers.”

The fox grinned. He thought this was a perfect plan. “Of course,” he said. “Pray all you want. I have time.” He settled down by a tree, sure that the geese had no way to escape.

The geese gathered together and began to pray. They made such a grand show of it, flapping their wings and calling out loudly. They prayed and prayed, taking their sweet time. The fox, feeling certain he had won, started to grow bored. The sun was warm, and the geese’s prayers seemed endless. The fox yawned, his eyelids drooping. Slowly, he drifted off to sleep.

As soon as the fox’s eyes closed and soft snores filled the air, the geese stopped praying. They looked at one another, nodded, and with a flap of their wings, they soared into the sky, flying far, far away from the sleeping fox.

When the fox woke up, he rubbed his eyes and looked around. The geese were gone! Realizing he had been tricked, the fox sighed and muttered, “I should have known better than to underestimate them.”

Moral:

Never underestimate others, no matter how clever you think you are.
