The Boy and the Filberts

Share Story

One sunny afternoon, a curious boy named Timmy was exploring his neighborhood when he stumbled upon a shiny jar hidden beneath a bush. As he dusted it off, his eyes widened with delight—it was filled to the brim with delicious filberts, also known as hazelnuts!

Timmy’s mouth watered at the thought of all those tasty nuts. “I want to grab as many as I can!” he exclaimed, his excitement bubbling over. Without thinking twice, he plunged his hand into the jar, determined to scoop up a handful. But as he reached for more and more, he suddenly realized his hand was stuck inside the jar!

“Oh no!” he cried, trying to pull it out. He tugged and pulled, but the jar wouldn’t budge. Timmy felt a wave of disappointment wash over him. After a moment of struggle, he realized he had to let go of some of the nuts if he wanted to free his hand. With a sigh, he carefully dropped a few filberts back into the jar.

Finally, his hand slipped out! Timmy looked at the few nuts he managed to keep and smiled. “I may not have all of them, but I can enjoy these without getting stuck again!” he thought, feeling much happier.

As he walked away, munching on his tasty filberts, he learned an important lesson: sometimes having just a little is much better than trying to grab too much at once.

Moral:

Don’t be greedy.

Parenting Tip: Teach your child about the value of moderation and contentment. Use Timmy’s experience as a way to explain how wanting too much can sometimes lead to challenges, and how appreciating what we have can bring joy and satisfaction.
